Gastric bypass patient. I am having pain and don’t know what to test for next. Ideas.

I am 4 1/2 years post op. I had lap RNY.
I have had pain just below my breast bone and to the right (gallbladder removed in 07). I have been to the ER 4 times in 6 weeks. I have seen my surgeon who thinks it is not bypass related and refferred me to a GI doc. I have had 3 CT scans, 2 X-Rays, an Endoscopy, and I am having a colonoscopy on Thursday. The colonoscopy was supposed to be Monday but the bowel prep didn’t clean me out well enough. The pain is bad and I have had nausea. I have very mild gastritis but the doc doesn’t think it is bad enough to be causing my pain. I have no ulcers. I am starting to think I am crazy. I had surgery in March to fix adhesions, a twisted bowel, and an umbillical hernia. The docs seems to be throwing their hands up and are at a loss. All the tests, films, scans, bloodwork, ect come back fine. I have also had an upper GI.
I can’t live with the pain and I don’t know what to do next. My surgeon’s office doesn’t want me and the GI doc doesn’t know what to do either. My stomach is moving, I can feel it with my hand and it is making loud loud noises. Today, I am once again trying to do a bowel cleansing for a colonoscopy but lets just say it isn’t working so well.

Gross, but need help – diarrhea concerns.

Hi, I’m going to try to add as much info as needed but if I forget anything please don’t hesitate to ask. I am 25 years old, had a gastric bypass in 2003 and have lost (still losing) 150 lbs. Ever since like 2 years after surgery I keep switching between diarrhea and constipation and I was wondering why this might be. I haven’t changed my diet up. The stools (when I have them) are watery, runny and I get cramping like I still need to go.They are discolored but only because I take iron daily. I think. When I have to go, I HAVE to go it hurts so bad. It mostly happens in the beginning part of my day. I was also recently diagnosed with anemia. I have had blood in my stools once before but not recently. Had a colonoscopy and it came back fine. An endoscopy showed I have Barrett’s (sp.) esophagus. Also, I have started to have pain in my lower back and was wondering if this might be related. In case you were wondering, my normal diet is high protein. Anything else please just ask. Could this just be IBS.

How can I find an insurance company that will cover gastric bypass surgery for my mother.

To sum this up as briefly as I can: My mother, in just the last year, has become a medical disaster. A significant health-deteriorating weight gain being the main issue. Prior to that, besides being somewhat overweight, she was healthy as a horse. She developed pneumonia last year and was very sick for several months. She was placed on steroids that sky-rocketed her weight and in the months to follow subsequently developed asthma, hypertension, and now the last straw.diabetes. Her physical last week revealed that she has a polyp in her uterus with post-menopausal bleeding. She also has blood in her stools so she has to have a colonoscopy. Her diabetes is not high enough where she has to be put on meds yet so she will be seeing a diabetic educator to learn how to control with diet and also check her blood sugars. The frustrating part in all of this is that we just lost my dad to cancer 1 1/2 yrs ago, so instead of being on a Group Ins policy, she is now on a Single policy. She weighs >300 lbs at 5′5″ and has tried diet and (to her capability), exercise. She is an excellent candidate for a gastric bypass surgery, however this insurance company will not cover her since she is on a Single policy (which baffles me, because they would cover her if she was on their Group). She is a medical wreck.it pisses me off because her insurance will not pay for the surgery, but they will pay for ALL of these medical expenses that are a primary reflection of her weight. Can anyone tell me if there is an insurance company out there that would cover a gastric bypass surgery for my mother (on a single policy). I don’t want to lose another parent. She is only 57 years old.

Does doctor remove any abnormalities he finds during a Gastric Bypass.

OK, this is gonna sound odd, but here goes:
I’ve had a Full Hysterectomy due to a history of ovarian cysts and endometriosis.
I’ve also had benign polyps removed during a colonoscopy a few years back.
My question is this: If the doctor is going in, Laparoscopically to do the Gastric Bypass, and he sees anything abrnomal or whatnot, whether it be from prior surgeries and adhesions, all the way up to cancer of an organ or something, does HE/SHE go ahead and remove it. or does the dr. just do the surgery he’s supposed to do and stitch you up and tell the results to the PCP doc, or what.

I am just a bit nervous if they find something while you’re under, LAP, do you wake up to find out you’ve got a full belly incision or what. Are there any doctors out there with any real-world examples.
I am not trying to sound paranoid—I am trying to prepare myself for all possible scenarios, that’s all. Thanks :)
Forgot to mention that after the hysterectomy and removing all my parts, the huge weight gain was due to the UNDERLYING endocrine problem of PCOS=Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

I should tell you that 3 Endocrinologists in the area were not able to figure out what was going on with me, and then I landed on Hormone Replacement Therapy by age 35. I had a bad case of un-diagnosed PCOS. a.k.a. Insulin Resistant now.

Hello. This question is for those knowlegable in the medical field. My husband was in the hospital in ICU for 8 days during the past two weeks. He fainted in the bathroom (hitting his head and body hard on our marble tub). Come to find out he had two bleeding ulcers. He has been given 8 pints of blood. He has had 3 endoscopy (where they found 2 ulcers and carterized them), 1 colonoscopy, 1 bloodscan, 1 CATscan and 1 small intestine endoscopy camera capsule. He had his blood level checked last night at the doc and it was 11. When he left the hosp. last week it was 10.3. Does it sound like he is still loosing blood. He is still week and a little dizzy at times. He doesn’t have a black, tarry stool anymore. He is also pretty tired. Two naps yesterday. We just started an iron and C therapy yesterday. The GI doc hadn’t suggested one. Here’s my . If he isn’t bleeding anymore, how fast should his blood build up. By the way, he has had gastric bypass surgery before.
FYI his gastric bypass ruy n y (sp) was in 2004 with no complications. I just found out last week that since 2006, they have been requiring patients to take pepcid AC twice a day. My husband has never taken this.
