Why do they say gastric bypass surgery is better than lap band.

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

I am sure my doctor is making it up as he goes because he said people with lap band often don’t lose much weight and is pretty ineffective compared to gastric bypass

Is this a sufficient diet plan to follow.

It’s consist of having 1 glucerna shake for breakfast and 2 glucerna shakes for lunch.I don’t have diabetes. I drink the shakes for its taste and it’s low in sugar. For dinner i will have either a lean cuisine meal or 7oz steak or chicken breast with vegetables. I will be exercising for 30 min on the treadmill and the other 30 on bike. I’m a 22 year old female that is a little more than 300pds who could qualify for the gastric bypass/ lap band. I don’t want to go through with that. I’ve been on weight watchers and that didn’t go to well. I’ve tried the whole portion control thing and having small meals with little to no success. I’ve believe this modification of a liquid diet will provide structure in my eating habits that I’ve never had before. My goal is stay on the diet for at least 6 weeks. I just want to know if this diet is too drastic or a great idea.

I need help on how to approach my mom.

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Okay, so I need some advice on how to approach my mom about considering weight loss surgery (gastric bypass/lap band). Well here’s the story. A couple weeks ago I broke down crying because I couldn’t find anything to wear to a party. I thought I looked fat in EVERYTHING. I think I’m obese yet everyone I talk to tells me I’m not. My mom told me that I need to fix something. And I’ve tried. I really have, I did nutrisystem, I tried jogging everyday and eating healthier, I tried eating less. It won’t work. I told her I tried. So, she told me that if I wanted to get a surgery like SHE did then I could. I feel like the biggest person in my family. Im 5′ 3” and weigh 245 pounds. My bmi is like 43 or something, and on the chart that means obese. my brother only weighs 194, my mom is lighter than me, shes 185. my dads 235 but hes 6′2”. and my mom and my grandfather both got weight loss surgeries. I kinda want to too. I want to do it because I dont want to be fat I want to actually go into abercrombie/aeropostale/hollister/delias without walking out because I feel so insecure, and self conscious. I want to not have health problems when I get older. My mom almost develpoed diabetes. and my grandfather has it. and living the lifestyle that im living and having the genes I do, theres a good chance that ill get diabetes too. I’m done crying over what I look like. so how do I tell my mom I want to get surgery or something. Sorry for all the writing I just had to explain the story.
ive tried most of that stuff. ive only lost 5 punds from the no meat diet in 2 months and im still tryiing, but it doesnt work. im not saying bypass is what i wanna do. lapband or something

Do insurances like Cen cal or Medical cover lap band.

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

I am wondering if Medical or Cencal cover the lap band or gastric bypass surgery. My friend is trying to find the easiest way to get the procedure. She has a BMI of 32 or 33 and hastriedd manyweight losss options and it never helps. Should she pay for a new medical insurance and try to get the procedure done. Or does the Medical thing cover it.

Gastric bypass + a lap band and alcohol – a dangerous combination.

Monday, July 18th, 2011

My friend has had a gastric bypass. The pouch was left too big and she had lap band surgery over it. It is rare, but it is done. Now alcohol is a big problem. Wondering – How to deal with this.

Can a 16 year old get the Gastric LAP-Band surgery.

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Ok , so can an obese 16 year old get a lap band surgery to reduce its stomach . Like , I keep thinking you can’t but my cousin says yeah . Don’t you have to be 18 for that . I live in Florida. . Or is there an easier way , or another option for that . Other than stop eating and exercising , like this person can’t do none of that LOL , but I want to refer this to them but I don’t understand like what if your a minor and you need this surgery in order for it to be convenient , for you to excersise easier .

Do you look down on people who get gastric bypass or the lap band.

Do you look down on people who get gastric bypass or the lap band.
I’m sick of being overweight, the fat just has to go. I’ve been trying my entire life to lose weight, I lose, but then I gain it back or just maintain for a while.

I’ve been trying not to get surgery because I feel like I failed myself. I can’t hack it so I have to resort to some unnatural means. BUT if I’m ever going to be truly happy, I’ve got to get rid of this excess weight. I’m still young-ish (25) lol, but I’d like to at least enjoy my 30s since my teens and twenties have been bleh

I just worry, that sure the weight will be gone, but no one will truly be proud of me or care.or maybe I won’t be proud of myself if I achieve weight loss through surgery.

What do you all think.

Thanks for taking the time to read and answer. I do appreciate it.

Have a fabulous day.

What’s the point of Gastric Bypass or Lap-Band Surgery.

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Hey, I recently heard about the Gastric Bypass/Lap-Band surgeries, and apparently both are supposed to reduce the size of the stomach so that people eat less and get full with lesser amounts of food, if I’m correct. I don’t wanna come off as ignorant or anything, but why can’t people just physically eat less, maybe go on a diet, instead of getting a serious surgery. Isn’t eating less the whole point of the surgery. So why don’t people do that in the first place. Is there a medical reason, or do people want to take the easy way out.
I don’t want to get the surgery, I just want to know what’s the point of getting it over just eating less/switching to a healthier diet.

Are there any weight loss clinics in Dallas that use Victoza to lose weight.

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Looking for a physician supervised medical weight loss program in Dallas, TX area (DFW) that uses Victoza injections for weight loss. I was going to get a lap band or gastric bypass but decided it was too risky. I met someone that lost over 40 pounds on this drug but I can’t remember the place where she went. Any ideas.
