The Doctor couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me.

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

I had a bowl issue awhile ago but the doctors didn’t know what it was.
I suffered extreme stomach pains and blood was in my stool.
The doctors arranged an appointment with a specialist (Gastroenterology).
But I seem to be fine now.going regular but I’m curious about if it will happen again.
It started with pains in my stomach that where so severe I was pulling at my hair.
Sometimes I don’t go to the toilet for a week or so. I thought it was normal.and I seem to struggle all the time when I do go.
Please could you give me any hints on what it could of been. And if its wise to arrange dates and times with the specialist.
Rick, I did follow through, I was rushed into hospital and I was there for three days until I felt well but they didn’t figure it out and only now after a year have they contacted me.
Sorry I didn’t include this information.

What is the correct scientific term for this.

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

What is the correct word to define the study and understanding of the stomach.

I know that for the understand of the heart, the word is cardiology.
For the study of cancer, the word is oncology
For the study of the liver, the word is hepatology
For the study of blood, the word is hematology

I believe that for the stomach, it would be gastroenterology; but I need you to confirm it.

Where do you apply for scholarships.

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Ok so I know that you can get a scholarship for almost anything from race to gender to grades. So I’m a 17 year old Hispanic female with a 4.2 GPA ( don’t ask, my school has some weird GPA system when you take AP courses). I volunteer and am a member of a few clubs and such. I’m part of my school’s Honor Society. My parents are currently unemployed and separated. I want to become a registered nurse in Gastroenterology. Where can I apply for scholarships. Online.

Also, I want to go to a school in the Boston area. If I get enough scholarships do you think I can rent an apartment there. I heard that you can get enough money to afford things like apartments and cars. Is there a limit on how many scholarships you can get. Feel free to share your own personal experience and knowledge. Thank you for your time.

Should I become a doctor or a nurse practitioner.

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

I’m 17, right now I’m going to community college.it has a associates nursing program but I’m not sure if I should go into or not.My dream is to work in medical and Anatomy and Physiology is my favorite subject and it fascinates me. All of the biological sciences fascinates me.actually I just love science in general.
I’m kind of stressing out because I’m not sure whether I should take the path to becoming a nurse practitioner or a doctor. My interests are Neurology, Gastroenterology, and Pediatrics. I know I want a career in one of those. But what would be the best route. I love the idea of going to medical school and learning all that intense stuff and I KNOW I am smart enough for it and have the ambition. But I’m also worried about job prospects and such. I want to be able to pay back any loans I might have to take out. I also know that getting into medical school takes some hardcore GPA and MCAT scores.
What is the difference in practice between the two careers.and the ability to find work. I know that there’s an absolute glut of nurses and it’s horrifyingly hard to find work as a new graduate RN right now which is what worries me about trying to get RN experience before going the NP route.

So I’d love to hear some opinions and advice and maybe reference to articles. (:

Is there a good oncology doctor in San Diego that i can go to.

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

I feel a lump on my tongue in the back of my throat and the front of my tongue on the left side.At times it is sore. Sometimes my voice sounds different, like I have a cold. Had a mri and the doctor said I have a swelling on my right side of my tongue , but he didn`t seem to concern, wants to do another mri in two months. The swelling has been going on for 7 months. when I came down with a cold in Sept.Is there other tests that can be done . I am very concern and wonder if there is a good doctor here in San Diego. I am seeing a oncology at U C S D medical center(Moores cancer center.) Just need some one that will be more concern. He said he could do a biopsy, by putting me to sleep, but wasn`t sure he would be able to find anything as the mri only shows swelling. Is there any other tests that can be done other then a mri. I feel the lump on my left side of my tongue and the swelling of my tongue in my mouth next to my teeth. I fell the lump when I swallow soliva, not when I swallow food.A ears, nose and throat doctor thinks I have acid refex and has me on nexium.I have also seen a gastroenterology. doctor and he did a endoscopy and found nothing. The oncology doctor said he didn`t feel very strongly either way on doing the mri in two months or the biopsy when I asked him what he would do if he was me.

HELP. What to do about a gastroenterology/stomach problem - pain and burning sensation.

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

This has been going on for over three months now and she has yet to see any doctor.

Over 3 months ago my mom started feeling pain in her stomach. It was on and off and she described it as an “acid stomach.” Since then it’s been getting worse. Lately the pain has been increasing. And then this week the pain has been pretty bad (but she takes pain well and is modest - she’s never one to complain much.she TAKES stuff). Three days ago i noticed that her stomach was puffed-out (I’ve never seen it that way before). She said that she thinks it’s ulcers. And now today she’s having bad stomach pains but it’s after 5pm and the ER is too expensive (plus, she doesn’t think it’s bad enough to go to the ER).

I called around to ALL the gastroenterologists that go with our insurance and the quickest date for an appointment I could get is Friday at 12:30pm and Monday at 4pm. But Friday is two days away, it’s 8pm Wednesday and it’s hurting her nOw (and it’s bEEn hurting).

What should we do.
And WHAT DO YOU THINK IS WRONG WITH HER / WHAT IS THE diagnosis. What are the possibilities for what it could be.

How is Apollo Hospital Kolkata.

Monday, April 4th, 2011

We first took our Father under emergency to this Hospital’s Gastroenterology Dept under Dr. Mahesh Goenka. They seem to have a tie up with a Doctor’s Team from Singapore, which they arranged to perform a TIPS procedure. I feel they kept my father for a longer period then necessary because they wait to accumulate a few more patients before calling the Singapore Team. I paid an exorbitant price because had no complaints since my father was safe finally.
Then after around a year my father started having problems and we took him again under Dr. Goenka. Hvaing spent more than 10 lacs the last time we were conscious of the money being spent. And I was surprised to find that they were charging more than Rs. 25,000 per day when there were no special testes, no operation nothing, just for medication. In 3 days I think there medication bill was more than Rs 50,000 - not sure how they come up with that. They kep him for about 2 weeks and they were not letting him go, but seeing what they were doing which is nothing, we said we will take home at our risk and nothing happened - we kept giving the same medications at home with may be Rs 200 per day instead of Rs 25000. Still I was ok since I am aware most Hospitals try to make money like this.
Then I went to India and the very next day I took my Father to Dr. Goenka to get a first hand idea of what his condition was. First his junior Doctors came to check my father and they prescribed tests and medicines on a paper. We were then asked to wait for Dr. Goenka in a room since my Father was having a hard time walking. The Doctor came after 3 hours and can you imagine how much time he gave us. Not more than 30 seconds. One could imagine what service a Doctor will do to his patient if he is not giving enough time to his problem. On top of that he was mad that we had called him on his cell phone during day time when my father was having a problem at home and we got worried. He has been the primary Doctor for our father and we having spent so much money and time under him, he has no time to advice us when we really need him. I was so disappointed.
I won’t recommend any body to this Doctor or to this Hospital.
